Abstract
The effects of radish-contained thiocyanate ion on the germination and early growth of radish, cucumber, lettuce and cabbage was investigated and effects of boron on the action of thiocyanate ion was also investigated. end also the effects of boron on SCN^- was compared with the effects of gibberellin (GA) and indoleacetic acid (IAA).
The results obtained were as follows.
1. In the treatments of SCN^- 200, 400, 800 and 1.000ppm, the early growth of cucumber, radish and lettuce was inhibited, but in the treatments of SCN^- 5,000 and 10,000ppm, the germination ratio and early growth was greatly inhibited.
2. In the cucumber treated SCN^- , BO©ý^- 3ppm made the germination ratio and the root growth better than GA 50, 100ppm or IAA 50, 100ppm.
3. In cucumber, radish and lettuce, BO©ý^- 1, 3, 5 and 10ppm promoted the germination and early root growth in the existence of SCN^- but BO©ý^- 50 and 100ppm inhibited. In the case treated only Bpi , the effects were not expressed in radish and lettuce, except in cucumber. BO©ý^- affected the germination and early growth at the only low concentration (1¡10ppm) regardless of SCN^- .
4. The extraction of radish root inhibited the early growth of cucumber and cabbage, and the additional treatment of BO©ý^- 5ppm reduced the inhibition.
